The Banshees of Inisherin, a dark comedy about two estranged friends during the Irish Civil War, leads the race with eight nods, including Best Motion Picture —Musical or Comedy, Best Director (Martin McDonagh, and Best Actor (Colin Farrell) and Best Supporting Actor (Brendan Gleeson).
The nominations were announced by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) on Monday (Dec 11).
The mind-bending, multiverse-set sci-fier Everything Everything All at Once scored six nominations — including Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh — while The Fabelmans, Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical examination of his childhood; Babylon, La La Land helmer Damien Chazelle’s epic look at Hollywood’s silent era; and Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic Elvis, each has five nominations.
Elsewhere, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever made history by becoming the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to receive an acting nomination, with Angela Bassett’s Best Supporting Actress nod for her role as Queen Ramonda. The Ryan Coogler-directed sequel is up for Best Song for ‘Lift Me Up’.

Elsewhere the Park Chan-Wook-directed, Tang Wei-starring thriller Decision to Leave is vying for Best Picture — Non-English Language (formerly Foreign Language). It’s up against India’s RRR, Germany’s All Quiet on the Western Front, Argentina’s Argentina 1985, and Netherlands/France/Belgium’s Close.
Over on the TV side, Abbott Elementary, a sitcom about the teachers and students in a public school, has the most nominations with five while the murder-mystery-cum-social satire The White Lotus and the sex-tape themed Pam and Tommy both received four nods each.
For next year’s show, the HFPA added four new categories: Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series/Musical-Comedy or Drama, Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series/Musical-Comedy or Drama, Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series/Anthology or Motion Picture Made for Television, and Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series/Anthology or Motion Picture Made for Television.
These changes are seen as part of the HFPA’s attempts to reinvent the Globes following a series of scandals — including a 2021 Los Angeles Times report that exposed the organisation’s questionable practices and lack of diverse representation — that led to its hiatus last year.

If you’re on the go or don’t have cable, it’s easy to watch the Golden Globes online or live stream the event from your smartphone, computer, tablet, or a compatible streaming device.
